Abstract

An example implementation may involve a group of wearable playback devices including a first wearable playback device and a second wearable playback device. The wearable playback devices render multi-channel audio content according to particular playback responsibilities in the group. When a failure or other issue with the second wearable playback device occurs, the first playback device assumes at least part of the playback responsibility of the second playback device.

cause the playback device connected to the television to play back two or more audio channels from among the audio channels of the video.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to switch playback of the multi-channel audio comprise instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:

cause two or more additional playback devices to play back at least one respective additional audio channel from among the audio channels of the video.

7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:

switch playback of the video from the wearable playback device to the playback device connected to the television.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is further configured to:

cause a control device to display a notification of the detected state.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the multi-channel audio comprises stereo audio content and the audio transducers comprise a first audio transducer and a second audio transducer; and wherein the instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to play back the multi-channel audio via the audio transducers comprise instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:

play back a left channel of the stereo audio content via the first audio transducer and a right channel of the stereo audio content via the second audio transducer.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the multi-channel audio comprises surround audio content and the audio transducers comprise a first audio transducer and a second audio transducer; and wherein the instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to play back the multi-channel audio via the audio transducers comprise instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:

play back the surround audio content via the first audio transducer and the second audio transducer.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the state corresponding to the inability of the wearable playback device to continue playing back the multi-channel audio comprises disconnection of the wearable playback device from the source of the multi-channel audio, and wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:

detect that the wearable playback device is no longer connected to the source.

12 . A non-wearable playback device comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the non-wearable playback device is configured to:

receive data representing multi-channel audio;

cause a wearable playback device to play back the multi-channel audio via audio transducers of the wearable playback device;

during playback of the multi-channel audio by the wearable playback device, monitor the wearable playback device for a state corresponding to an inability of the wearable playback device to continue playing back the multi-channel audio; and

based on detection of the state, perform a recovery that shifts playback of the multi-channel audio to one or more non-wearable playback devices.

13 . The non-wearable playback device of claim 12 , wherein the one or more non-wearable playback device comprise at least one first playback device and at least one second playback device, and wherein the instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the non-wearable playback device is configured to perform the recovery that shifts playback of the multi-channel audio to one or more non-wearable playback devices comprise instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the non-wearable playback device is configured to:
