Methods of treating leukemia using compositions containing bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid and ion pairs thereof
Pharmaceutical formulations containing lipoic acid derivatives and ion pairs thereof are described. The pharmaceutical formulations are useful in the treatment of medical disorders, such as cancer.
1. A method of treating leukemia in a human patient in need thereof, comprising the step of intravenously administering to the patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent for solubilizing 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof, wherein the 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof is administered at a dose of 2,500 mg/m 2 .
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable diluent is a dextrose solution.
3. A method of treating leukemia in a human patient in need thereof, comprising the step of intravenously administering to the patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable aqueous diluent for solubilizing 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof, wherein the 6,8-bis(benzylthio)octanoic acid or an ion pair thereof is administered at a dose of 2,500 mg/m 2 .
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable aqueous diluent is a dextrose solution.
