5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the single light source is located on a first side of the optical cavity, and the plurality of photovoltaic detectors are located on a second side of the optical cavity that is opposite the first side, wherein any one of the first photovoltaic detector and the second photovoltaic detector is located behind a semi-transparent facet of a mirror of the second side.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical cavity comprises a single optical cavity, and the at least one light source comprises a plurality of light sources, wherein a first light source of the plurality of light sources is tuned to hydrocarbon gas, and a second light source of the plurality of light sources is tuned to gas other than hydrocarbon gas.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more photovoltaic detectors are a single photovoltaic detector, wherein the single photovoltaic detector detects both the hydrocarbon gas and the gas other than hydrocarbon gas.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of light sources are located on a same first side of the optical cavity, wherein the one or more photovoltaic detectors are a plurality of photovoltaic detectors that are located on a same second side of the optical cavity that is opposite to the first side, and wherein a first photovoltaic detector of the plurality of photovoltaic detectors is configured to receive a light from the first light source and detect hydrocarbon gas, and a second photovoltaic detector of the plurality of photovoltaic detectors is configured to receive a light from the second light source and detect gas other than hydrocarbon gas.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the first light source is located on a first side of the optical cavity, and the second light source is located on a second side of the optical cavity that is opposite to the first side, wherein the one or more photovoltaic detectors are a plurality of photovoltaic detectors including a first photovoltaic detector and a second photovoltaic detector, and wherein the first photovoltaic detector is located on the second side and is configured to receive a light from the first light source and detect hydrocarbon gas, and the second photovoltaic detector is located on the first side and is configured to receive a light from the second light source and detect gas other than hydrocarbon gas.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one light source is configured to emit at least one of: a specified wavelength of light and a band of wavelengths of light into the at least one optical cavity such that the emitted light travels one or more path lengths over one or more distances from the at least one light source.

11. A method comprising:

emitting, by at least one light source, a light into at least one optical cavity, wherein the at least one light source is at least one of: tuned to both specified wavelengths of a first trace gas species and a second trace gas species and tuned to a continuous wavelength shifting between the first trace gas species and the second trace gas species; and

receiving, by one or more photovoltaic detectors, the emitted light that travels one or more path lengths over one or more distances from the at least one light source; and
