Staple cartridge comprising an absorbable adjunct
A staple cartridge comprising a cartridge body, a plurality of staples, and an absorbable adjunct releasably secured to the cartridge body is disclosed. A plurality of staple cavities are defined in the cartridge body and the plurality of staples are removably positioned in the staple cavities. The absorbable adjunct comprises a first zone comprising a tissue-supporting surface, a second zone comprising a cartridge body contacting surface, and an intermediate zone position between the first zone and the second zone. The first zone comprises a first compressibility and the second zone comprises a second compressibility that is less than the first compressibility. The intermediate zone comprises a third compressibility greater than the first compressibility.
1. A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, wherein a plurality of staple cavities are defined in said cartridge body;
a plurality of staples removably positioned in said staple cavities; and
an absorbable tissue thickness compensator releasably secured to said cartridge body, wherein said absorbable tissue thickness compensator comprises:
a first zone comprising a tissue-supporting surface;
a second zone comprising a cartridge body contacting surface; and
an intermediate zone positioned intermediate said first zone and said second zone,
wherein said first zone comprises a first spring rate, wherein said second zone comprises a second spring rate greater than said first spring rate, and wherein said intermediate zone comprises a third spring rate less than said first spring rate.
2. A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, wherein a plurality of staple cavities are defined in said cartridge body;
a plurality of staples removably positioned in said staple cavities; and
an absorbable adjunct releasably secured to said cartridge body, wherein said absorbable adjunct comprises:
a first zone comprising a tissue-supporting surface, wherein said first zone comprises a first compressibility;
a second zone comprising a cartridge body contacting surface, wherein said second zone comprises a second compressibility that is less than said first compressibility; and
an intermediate zone positioned between said first zone and said second zone, wherein said intermediate zone comprises a third compressibility greater than said first compressibility.
3. A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, wherein a plurality of staple cavities are defined in said cartridge body;
a plurality of staples removably positioned in said staple cavities; and
an absorbable adjunct releasably secured to said cartridge body, wherein said absorbable adjunct comprises:
a first zone comprising a tissue-supporting surface, wherein said first zone comprises a first compressive constant;
a second zone comprising a cartridge body contacting surface, wherein said second zone comprises a second compressive constant that is less than said first compressive constant; and
an intermediate zone positioned between said first zone and said second zone, wherein said intermediate zone comprises a third compressive constant greater than said first compressive constant.
