Abstract

A system for treating fat tissue, including: an ultrasound applicator, including: two or more ultrasound transducers configured to generate and direct ultrasonic waves to a selected tissue volume including fat tissue; a control unit, including: a control circuitry electrically connected to the two or more ultrasound transducers, wherein the control circuitry is configured to activate the two or more ultrasound transducers to heat the selected tissue volume.

Claims (35)

1 . A system for multi-layer ultrasound treatment, the system comprising:

a plurality of ultrasound transducers arranged side-by-side and configured to generate ultrasound waves;

a plurality of covers configured to prevent direct contact between the plurality of ultrasound transducers and a skin layer of a treatment region;

one or more joints interconnecting the plurality of ultrasound transducers in a linear arrangement to allow relative movement of at least some of the plurality of ultrasound transducers to conform to a contour of the treatment region; and

electrical circuitry configured to:

generate first ultrasonic waves having first frequency values in a range of 1-7 MHz for affecting a body contouring treatment, wherein during the body contouring treatment the first ultrasonic waves target fat tissue in a hypodermis layer; and

generate second ultrasonic waves having second frequency values in a range of 10-13 MHz for affecting a skin tightening treatment, wherein during the skin tightening treatment, ultrasonic waves target at least one of a dermis or epidermis layer; and

switch between the body contouring treatment and the skin tightening treatment in response to a trigger.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical circuitry is configured to control generation of the first ultrasonic waves and the second ultrasonic waves such that the second ultrasonic waves are delivered in a timed relationship with first ultrasonic waves.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the second ultrasonic waves are delivered before delivering the first ultrasonic waves to the hypodermis layer.

4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the second ultrasonic waves are delivered during delivering the first ultrasonic waves to the hypodermis layer.

5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the second ultrasonic waves are delivered after delivering the first ultrasonic waves to the hypodermis layer.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the body contouring treatment involves heating the fat tissue to a temperature in a range of 45-85° C.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the treatment region includes at least one of: an abdomen, a thigh, or a buttocks, and wherein the system further includes a strap configured to fasten the plurality of ultrasound transducers on the skin layer of the treatment region.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ultrasound transducers includes at least four ultrasound transducers.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of ultrasound transducers includes a plurality of channels extending therethrough.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical circuitry configured to cause the first ultrasonic waves to deliver energy in a range of 1 to 18 Joules to the fat tissue.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical circuitry configured to cause the second ultrasonic waves to deliver energy in a range of 3 to 6 Joules to at least one of the dermis or the epidermis layer.

12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical circuitry includes at least one processor configured to control emission of ultrasonic waves via the plurality of ultrasound transducers.

13 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising at least one cooling element located in proximity to the plurality of ultrasound transducers, wherein the at least one cooling element is configured to deliver cooling between −15° C. and −5° C.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one cooling element includes at least one thermoelectric cooler (TEC), and wherein a cooling surface of the at least one TEC contacts an associated surface of the at least one ultrasound transducer or a surface of at least one thermal conducting transducer holder attached to the at least one ultrasound transducer.

15 . A method for a multi-layer ultrasound treatment, the method comprising:

placing on a skin treatment region a plurality of side-by-side ultrasound transducers configured to generate ultrasound waves, wherein the plurality of ultrasound transducers each include a cover thereon for preventing direct contact between the plurality of ultrasound transducers and a skin layer of a treatment region, and wherein the side-by-side ultrasound transducers are flexibly connected to permit the side-by-side transducers to conform to a contour of the treatment region;

generating first ultrasonic waves having first frequency values in a range of 1-7 MHz for affecting a body contouring treatment, wherein during the body contouring treatment the first ultrasonic waves target fat tissue in a hypodermis layer;

generating second ultrasonic waves having second frequency values in a range of 10-13 MHz for affecting a skin tightening treatment, wherein during the skin tightening treatment, ultrasonic waves target at least one of a dermis or epidermis layer; and

switching between the body contouring treatment and the skin tightening treatment in response to a trigger.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the treatment region includes at least one of an abdomen, a thigh, or a buttocks.

17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein generating the first ultrasonic waves and generating the second ultrasonic waves includes activating at least one ultrasound transducer of the plurality of ultrasound transducers, while at least one other ultrasound transducer of the plurality of ultrasound transducers remain inactive.

18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein generating the first ultrasonic waves and generating the second ultrasonic waves includes activating at least one ultrasound transducer of the plurality of ultrasound transducers for a duration of at least two seconds.

19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein generating the first ultrasonic waves and generating the second ultrasonic waves includes activating at least one ultrasound transducer of the plurality of ultrasound transducers to continuously heat the fat tissue while keeping a temperature of a skin surface of the treatment region below a predetermined temperature.

20 . A non-transitory computer readable medium containing instructions that when executed by at least one processor cause the at least one processor to perform fat tissue treatment operations, the operations comprising:

activating a plurality of side-by-side ultrasound transducers flexibly connected to conform to a contour of the treatment region, wherein the plurality of side-by-side transducers are configured to generate ultrasound waves, and wherein the plurality of ultrasound transducers are associated with a plurality of covers configured to prevent direct contact between the plurality of ultrasound transducers and a skin layer of the treatment region;

generating, while the ultrasound transducers are flexed to conform to the contour of the treatment region, first ultrasonic waves having first frequency values in a range of 1-7 MHz for affecting a body contouring treatment, wherein during the body contouring treatment the first ultrasonic waves target fat tissue in a hypodermis layer;
