Abstract

The disclosure herein relates to systems, methods, and devices for medical image analysis, diagnosis, risk stratification, decision making and/or disease tracking. In some embodiments, the systems, devices, and methods described herein are configured to analyze non-invasive medical images of a subject to automatically and/or dynamically identify one or more features, such as plaque and vessels, and/or derive one or more quantified plaque parameters, such as radiodensity, radiodensity composition, volume, radiodensity heterogeneity, geometry, location, and/or the like. In some embodiments, the systems, devices, and methods described herein are further configured to generate one or more assessments of plaque-based diseases from raw medical images using one or more of the identified features and/or quantified parameters.

accessing, by a computer system, a medical image of one or more coronary arteries of a subject and coronary artery information associated with the medical image, the coronary artery information comprising identification of lumen, vessel wall, and one or more regions of plaque;

determining, by the computer system, a presence or degree of atherosclerosis and ischemia based at least in part on applying one or more imaging processing algorithms to the medical image;

generating, by the computer system, on a single graphical user interface, a first panel illustrating a three-dimensional view of the one or more coronary arteries, the three-dimensional view of the one or more coronary arteries generated from the medical image, wherein the three-dimensional view of the one or more coronary arteries comprises one or more annotations of presence or degree of ischemia or atherosclerosis;

generating, by the computer system, on the single graphical user interface, a second panel illustrating at least a portion of one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject in a straightened reformation view, the straightened reformation view generated from the medical image, wherein the straightened reformation view comprises the identification of lumen and vessel wall, the identification of lumen and vessel wall in the straightened reformation view configured to illustrate presence or degree of stenosis, the straightened reformation view further comprising one or more annotations of presence or degree of ischemia; and

generating, by the computer system, on the single graphical user interface, a third panel showing a cross-sectional view of the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject, the cross-sectional view generated from the medical image, wherein locations along the straightened reformation view in the second panel are associated with the cross-sectional view in the third panel such that a selection of a particular location along the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject in the straightened reformation view in the second panel causes display of the associated cross-sectional view of the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject in the third panel, the cross-sectional view of the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject comprising a color overlay that depicts calcified plaque with a first color and non-calcified plaque with a second color, wherein the color overlay is configured to illustrate presence or degree or atherosclerosis,

wherein the first panel, the second panel, and the third panel generated from the medical image are configured to provide a coordinated multivariable view of the presence or degree of stenosis, atherosclerosis, and ischemia of the subject on the single graphical user interface,

wherein the computer system comprises a computer processor and an electronic storage medium.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the three-dimensional view of the one or more coronary arteries comprises a coronary artery tree.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the medical image comprises a computed tomography (CT) image.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the presence or degree of ischemia is determined on a vessel-by-vessel basis.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the presence or degree of ischemia is determined on a lesion-by-lesion basis.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the presence or degree of ischemia is determined based at least in part using a computational analysis.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the presence or degree of ischemia is determined based at least in part using a machine learning algorithm.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the straightened reformation view of the one or more coronary arteries are rotatable.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the imaging processing algorithm comprises a machine learning algorithm trained on a set of medical images with identified presence or degree of atherosclerosis.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a change in selection of a location along the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject in the straightened reformation view in the second panel dynamically causes a change in display of the associated cross-sectional view of the portion of the one of the one or more coronary arteries of the subject in the third panel.

11. A system for generating an integrated visualization of stenosis, atherosclerosis, and ischemia based at least in part on imaging processing analysis of a medical image of a subject to provide a coordinated multivariable view of a state of coronary artery disease (CAD) of the subject on a single graphical user interface, the system comprising:

one or more computer readable storage devices configured to store a plurality of computer executable instructions; and

one or more hardware computer processors in communication with the one or more computer readable storage devices and configured to execute the plurality of computer executable instructions in order to cause the system to:

access a medical image of one or more coronary arteries of a subject and coronary artery information associated with the medical image, the coronary artery information comprising identification of lumen, vessel wall, and one or more regions of plaque;

determine a presence or degree of atherosclerosis and ischemia based at least in part on applying one or more imaging processing algorithms to the medical image;
