Abstract

Described herein are examples of a computerized method that comprises: in response to obtaining information regarding a potential collision between a vehicle and an object, obtaining data describing the vehicle for a time period extending before and after a time of the potential collision. The method may determine a likelihood that the potential collision is a non-collision event based on the data describing the vehicle by performing one or more assessments. The assessments may include telematics monitor assessment, driver behavior assessment, road surface feature assessment, trip correlation assessment, and/or context assessment. In response to determining that the likelihood indicates that the potential collision is not a non-collision event, the method may trigger one or more actions responding to the potential collision.

determining whether a location of the vehicle at a time of the potential collision matches a road surface feature prone to causing acceleration events.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the method further comprises:

in response to determining that the location of the vehicle at the time of the potential collision matches the road surface feature prone to causing acceleration events:

determining whether the potential collision is associated with the vehicle traversing the road surface feature by determining whether acceleration data for the vehicle during the time period matches an acceleration signal that would be produced by the vehicle striking the road surface feature at the location of the vehicle at the time of the potential collision.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

obtaining additional data describing the vehicle during a second time period from before and to after the potential collision, and wherein determining whether the data describing the vehicle during the time period satisfy one or more criteria for a non-collision event comprises:

analyzing the additional data to determine whether a behavior of a driver does not match any behavior prone to causing a collision; and

in response to determining that the behavior of the driver does not match any behavior prone to causing a collision, determining that the potential collision is a non-collision event.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

obtaining data describing the vehicle during the updated time period in place of obtaining data during the time period.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein determining the likelihood that the potential collision is a non-collision event comprises assessing one or more conditions comprising:

whether the vehicle experienced a pull-over around the time of the potential collision;

whether the vehicle experienced a speed reduction around the time of the potential collision;
