Abstract

Various surgical hubs are disclosed. A surgical hub is for use with a surgical system in a surgical procedure performed in an operating room. The surgical hub comprises: non-contact sensors and a control circuit. The control circuit is configured to: determine bounds of the operating room based on measurements performed by the non-contact sensors; and establish a control arrangement with a detected surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room.

Claims (33)

1. A surgical hub for use with a surgical system in a surgical procedure performed in an operating room, wherein the surgical hub comprises:

non-contact sensors; and

a control circuit configured to:

determine bounds of the operating room based on measurements performed by the non-contact sensors;

detect another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room; and

establish a control arrangement with the detected another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room.

2. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the control arrangement is a master-slave arrangement.

3. The surgical hub of claim 2 , wherein the control circuit is configured to select one of a master mode of operation or a slave mode of operation in the master-slave arrangement.

4. The surgical hub of claim 3 , wherein the control circuit is configured to surrender control of at least one surgical instrument to the detected another surgical hub in the slave mode of operation.

5. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the control arrangement is a peer-to-peer arrangement.

6. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the non-contact sensors are ultrasonic sensors.

7. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the non-contact sensors are laser sensors.

8. A surgical hub for use with a surgical system in a surgical procedure performed in an operating room, wherein the surgical hub comprises:

non-contact sensors;

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to:

determine bounds of the operating room based on measurements performed by the non-contact sensors;

detect another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room; and

establish a control arrangement with the detected another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room.

9. The surgical hub of claim 8 , wherein the control arrangement is a master-slave arrangement.

10. The surgical hub of claim 9 , wherein the memory further stores instructions executable by the processor to select one of a master mode of operation or a slave mode of operation in the master-slave arrangement.

11. The surgical hub of claim 10 , wherein the memory further stores instructions executable by the processor to surrender control of at least one surgical instrument to the detected another surgical hub in the slave mode of operation.

12. The surgical hub of claim 8 , wherein the control arrangement is a peer-to-peer arrangement.

13. The surgical hub of claim 8 , wherein the non-contact sensors are ultrasonic sensors.

14. The surgical hub of claim 8 , wherein the non-contact sensors are laser sensors.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer readable instructions which, when executed, causes a machine to:

determine bounds of an operating room based on measurements performed by non-contact sensors;

detect another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room; and

establish a control arrangement with the detected another surgical hub located within the bounds of the operating room.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the control arrangement is a master-slave arrangement.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further causes the machine to select one of a master mode of operation or a slave mode of operation in the master-slave arrangement.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further causes the machine to surrender control of at least one surgical instrument to the detected another surgical hub in the slave mode of operation.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the control arrangement is a peer-to-peer arrangement.
