Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a first body portion being hollow to define an interior cavity, a first body portion recess on a back wall portion below a horizontal midplane of the first body portion, and a second body portion removably coupled to the first body portion in the first body portion recess. The golf club head may include at least one fastener configured to fasten the second body portion to the first body portion, and a face portion having a back surface opposite the front surface and associated with a total back surface area. The back surface may include first back surface region associated with a first back surface area and coupled to a front portion of the first body portion. The face portion may include a second back surface region exposed to the interior cavity and associated with a second back surface area. The total back surface area may be equal to a sum of the first back surface area and the second back surface area, and the first back surface area may be less than 30% of the total back surface area. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

a second body portion comprising a material having a third density, the second body portion being removably coupled to the first body portion below a horizontal midplane of the first body portion, the second body portion defining a portion of the toe portion edge, a portion of the back portion with a portion of the back wall portion, a portion of the sole portion edge, and a portion of the heel portion edge, the second body portion including a plurality of second body ports with each second body port configured to receive a mass portion of the plurality of mass portions;

wherein at least one port of the plurality of first body ports and at least one port of the plurality of second body ports are configured to be aligned,

wherein the second body portion is configured to be fastened to the first body portion by at least one mass portion of the plurality of mass portions engaging the at least one port of the plurality of first body ports and the at least one port of the plurality of second body ports that are aligned, and

wherein the interior cavity of the first body portion is at least partially filled with a filler material from the at least one port of the plurality of first body ports and the at least one port of the plurality of second body ports that are aligned.

2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first density is greater than the second density.

3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the third density is greater than the second density.

4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first density is greater than the third density, and wherein the third density is greater than the second density.

5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second density and the third density are different.

6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the back wall portion comprises a channel extending from the toe portion edge to the heel portion edge, wherein the channel is adjacent to and extends along an upper boundary of the second body portion.

7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity is located below the horizontal midplane and above the second body portion.

8 . A golf club head comprising:

a first body portion being hollow to define an interior cavity, the first body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge and a hosel portion, a front portion include a front ledge portion defining a front opening to the interior cavity, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, and a first body portion recess on the back wall portion below a horizontal midplane of the first body portion and extending between the toe portion edge and the heel portion edge;

a second body portion removably coupled to the first body portion in the first body portion recess, the second body portion defining a portion of the toe portion edge, a portion of the back wall portion, a portion of the sole portion edge, and a portion of the heel portion edge;

at least one fastener configured to fasten the second body portion to the first body portion; and

a face portion having a front surface with at least one groove, and a back surface opposite the front surface and associated with a total back surface area, the back surface including a first back surface region coupled to the front ledge portion to close the front opening, the first back surface region associated with a first back surface area, the face portion including a second back surface region exposed to the interior cavity and associated with a second back surface area, the total back surface area being equal to a sum of the first back surface area and the second back surface area,

wherein the first back surface area is less than 30% of the total back surface area.

9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity is located below the horizontal midplane and above the second body portion.

10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the second body portion comprises a material having a greater density than a material of the first body portion.

11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the first back surface area is less than 20% of the total back surface area.

12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port extending through the first body portion and the second body portion, wherein the at least one fastener engages the at least one port to fasten the second body portion to the first body portion.

13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port extending through the first body portion and the second body portion, wherein the interior cavity is at least partially filled with a polymer material from the at least one port.

14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a channel on the back wall portion extending from the toe portion edge to the heel portion edge and located above the first body portion recess.
